Pickleball Courts Are Open!

The grand opening celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony at Western Gateway Park’s newly renovated pickleball courts was held on Saturday, June 21st at 4:00 pm.  USA Pickleball Ambassador and founding member of the Grass Valley Pickleball Club, Victor Simon will be offering free pickleball lessons to those who want to learn to play. Contact the club to find out more.

According to  Victor Simon, pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the USA and it’s coming to Western Gateway Park in Penn Valley with help from the Grass Valley Pickleball Club.

A total of ten pickleball courts now occupy the former tennis court location , technically nine courts, with the tenth being allocated as an area for people to sit around, because all nine courts are expected to be busy at some point during the day. It will be an area for people to hang out, watch the tournaments and/or wait for their time to play.

Says Simon , “...anyone can learn to play pickleball, and I’ve been teaching pickleball for fourteen years. You don’t have to be young; you don’t have to be tall; you don’t have to be skinny. I’ve taught someone as young as eight and somebody as old as eighty. And every age in between.”

According to the Loma Linda Institute of Health, there are three components to pickleball which people need in their lives, regardless of how old you are. These are the three “F’s,” which are Fitness, Fun, and Friends.

Check out the beautiful new courts and enjoy the fastest growing sport in the USA!
